Your Past Will Become Your Future – A Must Read
By Mr. Self Development on May 5, 2010 in Success
I know of no way of judging the future but by the past. – Patrick Henry
I could probably predict your future with a pretty “high-level” of accuracy. I could probably tell you how much you will be earning in the future, and how much you will weigh. I could probably tell if you will be rich, or if you will be a success, and I could do all of this by simply looking at your past.
Not only could I do this, but the average 5th grader could do it as well.
I remember in the 5th grade we would have math problems such as:
“If a train left the New York train station headed to the Atlanta train station, how long would it take the train to get to Atlanta, if the train was traveling at 200 miles per hour? [Hint: Atlanta is 900 miles away.]”
The average 5th grader would know that it would take the train 4.5 hours to arrive to Atlanta. They would know this because there’s only two basic pieces of information needed to predict the future. That information is:
1. The goal, and
2. The speed in which the object is approaching the goal
In this example, the goal is Atlanta, which is 900 miles away, and the speed is 200 miles per hour. Given this information, we can accurately predict the outcome.
So what are you saying Mr. Self Development?
I’m saying that the speed in which you are traveling towards your goal is the greatest predictor of your future.
If your goal is to lose 50 pounds, and over the past five years you’ve lost a (net) of only 1 pound, according to the math it will take you approximately 250 years to get to your goal.
If your goal is to save one million dollars, and over the last 10 years you’ve only been able to accumulate $500 in savings, then I have good news. In the year 22,010 A.D. you will have made your first million.
Isaac Newton’s First Law of Motion (or the Law of Inertia)
Newton’s 1st Law of Motion: An object in motion will remain in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by a greater force.
Put it another way, there’s a very good chance that your past will become your future. Come with me five seconds into the future, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. What’s changed? Nothing! Everything is traveling as it was before. If that’s true about five seconds, then it’s true about five hours, if it’s true about five hours, then it’s true about 5 days, and if it’s true about 5 days, then it’s true about 5 years. Your past will duplicate itself into your future.
Unless….A Greater Force
Newton’s law says that the object will remain in motion at the same speed and in the same direction, “unless.” The word “unless” cancels out the previous statement, and places emphasis on the upcoming statement. He said “unless” acted upon by a greater force.
For things to change in your life, you need a greater force to act on your life. If that greater force doesn’t act on your life, you will remain the same, year-after-year; its proven, its science. You will grow at the speed you’ve been growing, or worse yet, you will decline at the speed you’ve been declining, if a greater force doesn’t act on you.
If you’re satisfied with the amount of growth you’re having from year-to-year. There’s no need to read any further, anyone could predict the success of your future, but if you want things to change, you may want to read the next brief paragraph.
There is one solution; you don’t have to travel un-acted upon. You can change your destiny; you can change your course. I don’t care how many of your generations have traveled in the direction you’re traveling. I don’t care how grandeur the cage which seems to keep you bound, I’m uninterested in the chains which seem to halt your progress, when acted upon by a greater force, this all changes. There is one way to change your direction; there is one way to increase your speed and to ensure that you make it to your goal. There is one way to overturn the years of lack and to enter into your Promised Land, and it’s by… changing the way you think! Your “thinking” is your accelerator in the race of life, when you raise your thinking, you raise your speed, and when you raise your speed, you can get to any goal with just a little time.
So I encourage you to “raise” your thinking. I encourage you take time everyday to “change” your thoughts, when you change your thinking, your actions will change. This is why daily meditation is so important. Daily meditation allows you an opportunity to reprogram your life, and to become the person you know you can become!
So raise your thinking today! You be the greater force, and in changing your life, you will change the lives of others.
