7 Success Secrets from Timothy Ferriss

Today I want to expound on seven powerful success secrets from Timothy Ferriss the American author and public speaker. As you may know, Timothy Ferriss published “The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich,” which was a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller.
So let’s get to it….
7 Success Secrets from Timothy Ferriss (expounded on by Mr. Self Development):
1. Believe That You Will Succeed
“The reason most people don’t succeed is because they don’t believe they will succeed.”
When you don’t believe you’re going to succeed, you won’t take the actions requisite for success. Your actions will always follow your beliefs. If (in your heart) you believe failure is inevitable, then you will consequently take actions that will create the failure you believe you deserve. The opposite of this is also true, if you believe you will succeed, you will take actions that will guarantee your success. Henry Ford said it best: “Whether you think you can, or can’t – you’re right.”
2. Have a Dream and a Plan
“Dreamlining is so named because it applies timelines to what most would consider dreams. I’m not a big believer in long-term planning and far-off goals. In fact, I generally set 3-month and 6-month dreamlines. The variables change too much and in-the-future distance becomes an excuse for postponing action.”
A plan in the hand is better than 10 dreams in a bush. You must have an actionable short-term plan, without one, you will fail; and you can quote me.
Your dreams have to have a plan, and the plan has to be “worked” daily. “Work” the heck out of your plan! It’s the only way.
3. Be Very Selective in Your Task Selection
“Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive. Focus on the important few and ignore the rest. Lack of time is actually lack of priorities.”
You can do anything, but not everything. Focus on the critical tasks that provide you with the greatest results. Ask yourself daily, “What’s the one task that will make this day worthwhile?” Then be sure to get that task done.
Learn to differentiate between being busy and being productive; time is the most precious gift you have, don’t waste it.
4. Do the Uncomfortable Daily
“The most important actions are never comfortable.”
Growth is never comfortable, if you’re comfortable, you’re not growing! You will only succeed to the level you “grow.” You will only grow to the level you are willing to do the uncomfortable.
What you don’t want to do is often what you need to do right now, so go and do it; you can always make corrections along the way.
As I always say, tomorrow never comes; resolve to take that uncomfortable step today!
5. Act Outside the Box
“It isn’t enough to think outside the box. Thinking is passive. Get used to acting outside the box.”
We often talk about “thinking” outside the box, but successful people don’t just think outside the box, they act outside the box. They do the unconventional; they’re usually the first at something, learn to chart your own course.
Timothy Ferriss said, “The common-sense rules of the ‘real world’ are a fragile collection of socially reinforced illusions.” Don’t live your life based on socially created illusions; recognize that anything’s possible.
6. Ask, “Why Not You, Why Not Now!”
“That’s precisely the question everyone should be asking—why the hell not? – Why not you, why not now…”
I like what Timothy said in his book, The Four Hour Work Week, he said, “The fishing is best where the fewest go, and the collective insecurity of the world makes it easy for people to hit home runs while everyone else is aiming for base hits. There is just less competition for bigger goals. If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is, too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.”
Why not you, why not now!
7. Make it Happen
“You are capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for.”
If your life depended on it, could you succeed? If you had five years to succeed or die, could you do it? I think you could…the reality is, you are so much more than what you have become…there are dimensions in you that have yet to be discovered…realms that have yet to be seen…just beyond the veil of your ignorance is the power to change the world…to be the difference…to make a change…can you grasp it…I think you can!
