Success is Simple
By Mr. Self Development on Nov 24, 2009 in Success
Success is simple, as long as you know what you want to accomplish…but it’s also very hard! Are you with me? Success is simple to understand, and even explain; …however its principles are hard to implement…
So we overcomplicate success!
Let’s look at this more closely, why do we over complicate success:
Reason #1: We believe success is complicated (not simple)!
When you think about it, success is really quite simple, it’s like climbing a mountain, if you keep on heading upward, you will eventually get to the top of the mountain. What could be simpler to understand?
Want to be thin? Just limit your calorie in-take and you will become thin. Want to be a millionaire? Just keep on investing a large portion of your income, and you will become a millionaire. Nothing is easier to understand than success. Nothing! So why is it so difficult? Because although it’s simple, it’s hard!
It’s hard, in part, because we have an instant gratification mentality…
We want to diet for two weeks and be skinny for a lifetime, OR purchase a real estate program and become a millionaire in six months, but success doesn’t work that way.
Which takes me to my next point…
Reason #2: We believe that success is easy (not hard)!
Not only do we believe that success is complicated, we also believe that success is easy.
We want success to be “complicated” and “easy.” We want it to be complicated enough to justify why we haven’t succeeded thus far, yet easy enough for us to succeed over the next two months…
But success is just the opposite; it’s simple like “Tic-Tac-Toe,” and hard as a brick!
So what do most people do? …They look for shortcuts…they think, “It’s hard to climb this mountain of success, there has to be an easier way.”
But the truth is, there’s only one way to the top of the mountain, and it’s up!
How do you know if you’re headed to the top of the mountain? There’s one sure sign, and it’s progress from week-to-week. If you keep passing the same bush on your journey to the top, it’s probably because you’re NOT headed to the top at all. You’re probably circling the mountain, instead of climbing upward. My advice: Quit circling the mountain, it’s costing you precious time and energy.
Why People Don’t Succeed
Most people don’t succeed because they don’t give enough effort. They want a whole lot for a very little. They want a multi-million dollar lifestyle for $200 worth of effort; they’re looking for success on a discount. Scratch that, they’re looking for success on “Clearance.”
I wrote an article not too long ago called, “Double Your Success Rate.” The article basically said that you can double your chances of success by doubling your effort. Most people fail because they grossly underestimate the amount of work it takes to succeed.
It usually takes, 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times as much work to succeed, compared to what you might think. In other words, it takes a ton of effort!
If you have not yet succeeded, and you have lots of free-time, you are certainly not on the path to success. (I don’t know where you are, you might be lost!)
Remember this: The path to success is a busy road, with traffic, and roadblocks…
…but it’s the greatest road in the world!
