Why Am I Not Successful?
By Mr. Self Development on Aug 28, 2009 in Success, Thoughts
If you’re not successful, it’s simply because you don’t see yourself as a success!
The results you’re getting in your life are the results that you believe you deserve (no more and no less).
A Personal Example
A few weeks ago my wife’s family came to town. Among other things that we did with them, we spent some time by the swimming pool.
When the pictures were developed from their trip, I saw a picture of myself by the pool. Not to brag, but I couldn’t believe how “good” I looked, I looked unusually muscular. Not sure if it was the camera’s flash (combined with the sunlight) reflecting the “baby oil” that I just rubbed on my “six-pack” prior to jumping in the pool, but I appeared to be in impressive physical condition.
So what do you think happened after I saw those pictures? Do you think I was motivated to get back in the gym and pump more iron? Do you think those pictures inspired me to push myself even harder?
Just the opposite, …I didn’t workout for the next 7 days.
Why is this? Because what I saw on those pictures did not line-up with my perception of myself. Good, bad, or terrible, you will become who you believe you are.
The Me You See Is The Me You Will Be!
If you believe you are an average person, then you will be average, if you believe you are a successful person, then you will be a success. You cannot live above or below the image that you have of yourself.
Your mind is very similar to the thermostat in your home; whatever temperature the thermostat is “set” to, is the temperature it will be. If you set the thermostat to 78 degrees, the temperature in your home will be 78 degrees. It may rise slightly above 78, and it may fall slightly below 78, but it will always find its way back to where it’s been set.
This is why it’s so difficult for people who were born in poverty to become rich. They don’t see themselves as rich, they don’t believe it’s who they really are, and so they remain in a lifestyle that they’re comfortable with; the lifestyle their mind has been “set to.”
Where Is Your Mind Set?
Imagine the “outdoor” fan for your air conditioning unit; that fan will “run” until the temperature in your home matches the temperature your thermostat has been set to. Once your home gets to the temperature the thermostat has been set to, the fan will “cut-off.”
Let’s relate this to your mind…
If in you’re mind you “see” yourself as someone who has a million dollars in their bank account, then your mind is set to be a millionaire. You will stay in action, just like the air condition’s fan until you have a million dollars in your bank account (you won’t settle for anything less). Once you get the million dollars in your bank account, your actions will stop; until you further re-program your mind.
You have to see and believe it first, then you can have it. Your beliefs are what drive your actions. If you believe that you should have a great marriage, if you really believe that, then you won’t settle for anything less, and you’ll work to get it. If you believe you are supposed to drive a Porsche, then you’ll work until that’s what you drive, it all depends on what your mind has been set to believe about you.
What Are You Worthy Of?
You are getting from life everything that you believe you are worthy of. In order to get more you’re going to have to change the way you think, you’re going to have to “re-set” your mind. You’re going to have to “program–up” and get into resonance with what you’re saying you want.
Meditation Allows You to Change Your Programming
This is why meditation (or pondering) is so important, meditation allows you to consciously reprogram your thoughts and re-set your thinking (I won’t go into the details of how to do this because I talk about this in my article “2 Steps to Controlling Your Thoughts,” but meditation, or pondering, is the key).
You must be there in your mind before you can be there in the physical environment. However, once you can see it and believe it, you will have it!
The me you see is indeed the me you will be, so change your mind through meditation today, and you will succeed tomorrow.
