Success for Dummies – 10 Ways in Which the “Poor” Think Differently Than the “Rich”
By Mr. Self Development on Aug 21, 2009 in Goal Achievement, Thoughts
Want to change your life? You must begin by changing what you think about. If you think “poor,” then you will be “poor,” if you think “prosperous,” then you will be “prosperous.” “As a man thinketh so is he.” To change the man, you must change what the man thinks about.
Thoughts are the most powerful tools you possess; use them wisely and they will serve you.
Here are 10 ways in which the “poor” think differently than the “rich.” Use this list to ensure you’re thinking properly, enjoy
:
1. The Poor Think “Goals” are something that you score in a Hockey game – Rich people understand that goals are the foundation of success. Goals give you clarity of purpose and a target to aim for.
“You can’t hit a target that you can’t see,” so you must have goals.
The “Rich” understand that setting challenging (yet reasonable) goals every month is crucial to their success!
If you don’t have goals, you will fail, and you can quote me.
2. The Poor Think Visualizing is for Weirdoes – Visualizations, affirmations and/or meditation is a critical aspect of success. These techniques give you the motivation to achieve your goal; without motivation nothing ever gets done. The process of visualizing, affirming and/or meditating slowly reprograms your mind into believing the impossible is possible. Armed with this new belief you can turn your poverty into prosperity.
“You must see it before you can have it!” You must have it in your mind, before you can have it in your hand.
3. The Poor Think If First You Don’t Succeed, It Wasn’t Meant to Be – Rich people know that on the path to success there will be many failures. The road to success is paved with failure. I heard somebody say, “Success is going from failure to failure without getting discouraged.”
…I always say, if first you don’t succeed…then, that sounds about right…
4. The Poor Think Learning Ended When High-School Ended – Learning should never end! When you’re learning you’re growing, and when you’re not growing, you’re dying. I read a book a week, I’m constantly looking for new ways to grow and develop my mind. I know that my income will always be proportional to the growth of my mind.
5. The Poor Think Rich People are Lazy and They Should Cut Their Own Grass – In order to succeed you must be focused on the task at hand. The reason I hire maids to clean my home, landscapers to do my yard, and handymen to fix things that need repair is because I don’t want to “break” my focus. I want to be fixated on the tasks that make me the most beneficial.
6. The Poor Think Mission Statements are for Companies – Rich people understand that your life must have a mission statement. As an example, your mission statement may be to provide people in Texas with the best barbecue ribs around, or to create an amazing dance school in Chicago, but you must have a mission.
Your mission gives you focus and defines your life. It gives you clarity and keeps you from getting side-tracked; allowing you to accomplish your goals faster.
7. The Poor Think You Can’t be Happy and Rich, so They Choose to be Happy – It’s the classic “either, or” thinking.
Rich people know that how much money you have has nothing to do with being happy. Happiness is a choice. Rich people can choose to be both happy and rich, just like you.
8. The Poor Think Success is for Snobs – Many people think that success is for “other” people; this is typically because they’ve never been told that they are supposed to be successful! Success should be the norm. You were born to succeed, to fly with the eagles, not to hang with the chickens. So stop hanging with people who aren’t going where you want to go, leave those chickens alone!
9. The Poor Think “Plans” are for Funerals – A lot of people will die better than they lived. They have their funeral plans already settled. The limousine rides and “expensive suit” have already been planned.
They will die better than they lived, because they had more plans for their death than for their life.
Nothing just happens; you have to plan for it. Don’t say I don’t know what the future holds, the future holds whatever you planned for it to hold. If you haven’t planned anything for it, then your future looks bleak.
10. The Poor Think Only Cars are to be Driven – Rich people know that in order to succeed, “you” are going to have to be driven. It takes so much effort to go from poor to rich that only a driven person can make the trip. To succeed you must be driven and focused. You must be focused on your goal like the sailor is focused on the port in the harbor in which he is headed; if you can remain focus, and if you keep on moving, you will surely reach your destination.
Special Bonus: The Poor Think Being Rich is the Same as Being Poor – Some people are foolish enough to believe that there’s only a small difference between a life of luxury and a life of poverty. So let me help you, because I’ve been there:
First Class is better than coach; a BMW is better than riding the bus; an estate is better than an apartment, and a Rolex is better than a Timex. It’s just the truth, and you deserve to know and to live it!
