Relationships 101

Dear Mr. Self Development,

You appear to be quite educated when it comes to relationships, where does this knowledge come from?

Rebecca

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been strangely interested in relationships.  And when I say relationships, I’m particularly talking about the marriage relationship, and the relationship leading up to marriage.

I’m not sure if it was just part of my growth nature, but as a kid, I listened to hours upon hours (probably hundreds of hours) of marital counseling tapes, and I didn’t even have a girlfriend.

These are my earliest memories of being addicted to self-development, so even though I was girlfriend-less, I was quite educated in terms of relationships (at least from a philosophical theoretical perspective).

Many years later, I met my first girlfriend, who I am now married to, we’ve been married for seven years, and I must confess, all of that education is finally paying off.

When I write about relationships, it’s based on what I learned as a child listening to those marriage seminar tapes as well as what I have learned since being married (from seminars, books and through personal experience).

They say, you should never invest more on a wedding dress, then you do on the books and tapes that will keep the marriage together, and I’m sure that’s about right.

My “relationship education” has led to the writing of the articles that you see in the relationship category of this site, I hope you enjoyed reading them.
