The Rule of 10

Dear Mr. Self Development,

What’s the Rule of 10?

Jonathan

The rule of 10 works like this:  You think of one area in your life that you would like to improve, then you write down 10 ways to improve that area.

As an example:  Let’s say you want to come up with 10 ways to develop a six-pack.

Your list may look something like this.

1. Run two miles a day

2. Stop drinking alcohol

3. Stop eating fast food

4. Do 200 crunches a day

5. Stop drinking soda

6. Stop eating sweets

7. Start lifting weights

8. Set a goal of having a six-pack

9. Visualize having a six-pack (to create the desire)

10. Start a high protein, low fat diet

You don’t necessarily have to use all 10 items, just the best ones; this will get your mind focused on creating new ways of accomplishing your task.  It’s also a way to prove to yourself that you have more knowledge than you are using.

Writing such a list puts pressure on you to improve your situation.

Don’t just write it down

After you’ve written it down……do it.  If you do, you’ll be well on your way to improving that area in your life.  Other areas you can use the Rule of 10 for:

1. 10 Ways to Improve Your Relationship

2. 10 Ways to Improve Your Diet

3. 10 Ways to Improve Your Workouts

4. 10 Ways to Accomplish Your Dream

5. 10 Ways to Increase Your Focus
